Going through a divorce can be a very stressful time in your life, especially if you’re dealing with an ex who wants to fight about everything. Trying to work through the matters that have to be decided can seem impossible.
While you might yearn for a divorce that’s at least a little peaceful, your ex might make that impossible. Instead of worrying about what your ex is doing, consider these tips to make the process easier for you.
Disengage from the drama
When you disengage from the drama, you can find your own personal peace. Your ex may try to bring the drama to you; however, you have to remember that you aren’t playing their game now. They don’t have any power over you. One thing that might help you to remain disengaged is to use only written communication with your ex. This takes away the chance of you reacting in a way that makes your ex feel powerful.
Find your support system
During your marriage, you may have grown apart from your family members and close friends. Try to re-establish those relationships so you have a good support system. You can also find new friends who share similar hobbies with you.
You have to be able to protect your own interests when you divorce. Even if your ex has always watched out for you, now is not the time to count on them to do this. Instead, work closely with your team to ensure that you determine how various options can impact you so you can make solid decisions about how to proceed.
